Sleepless Knight
In the event of a millennia long rest, what's to change? Do we remain the same as our past? Or in that time do we have what it takes to change, to become better. Does time really heal all wounds? Can love really change the minds of even the most misguided individuals?
Upon the bodies every last human, surely something good must come from a deed so evil, right? Maybe there's a reason they're gone. Maybe there's a reason he did it. Maybe it did the world some good? Not likely. Those are real people. Husbands, wives, children, and babies to come. Did they deserve that end? Could you lie and say they did?
In that time without them you had every chance to learn the truth, Phoenix. You spent that time walking the ruins of everything that made humanity beautiful, yet you refrained from feeling an ounce of guilt. You refused to accept what you did as truly evil, as much as your sister did her best to convince you.
It was only until you found one of the last humans, mutated by the effects of the Fae and Human's endless wars. It was only until you looked deep into her charcoal eyes and saw something you never did before. It was only until you fell within her arms, and sensed a deep love within that you realized just what humans were.
You felt sorry for her, and the curse she forever must bear. You felt sorry for the time she spent watching all of her loved ones grow old, wither, and fade away. You felt dread for the idea that she too much remain in this life without an end. Holding onto the memory of a species long lost, and a family long since been destroyed.
In the past, a warlord you were. A triumphant hero of the Fae, leading the war against all of Humankind... Now a regretful old man. A man having finally seen such atrocities he has committed.
With this realization you remember the beast that gave you this power, to destroy them all. That gave you this unmatched power of pure flame.
The Graveyard Tune.
After seeing Veronica, a woman so perfect, you begin to think about a life with her. A life where you remained on your farm, tending to your crops. You think about a life with this woman, and the wonderful kids you may have.
You now have a purpose in finding this beast again.
Restore what was lost, Carrot Phoenix. Undo your mistakes, even if it means killing the remaining Fae left on this planet.
Do it for her.

"Sleepless Knight" is loosely based off of the novel "Obsidian Rising" written by Genevieve M. Lay, and acts as my take on the story behind the prologue's "The Farmer's Son" story.
(This is meant to be a demo for the real game I wanna work on. I just had some ideas I wanted to test out for later games/stories.)

I find the way the character moves around the map interesting; it's a good system.
Thank you! Ever since I used it in Cross, I fell in love with how simple it was to use. Plus I love Shovel Knight and it's where most of my art inspiration come from!
